Isn’t there a company that sells this, just smaller (and meant for this)? Either still strikes me as a bad idea.

I mean I would have gone with the F umoto, but I guess that works (assuming it actually stays shut when not in use). I’d say s ignificantly more properly fixed than most things you post.

Fumoto sells drain valves, and everything I’ve heard has been positive. They do also sell an additional clip to hold the release in place but it’s not strictly necessary (the lever needs to be lifted before it can be turned) . Apparently where there is trouble is for drains that point downwards as installing the valve decreases clearances and provides a nice easy to break off thing.

Oh no, my hands are so dirty from working on the car

Oh what’s this? An under-engine water faucet? How convenient!

There's a fumoto valve on the Miata and it's given me zero trouble despite all the general abuse the underbody has taken offroading, and playing around in the snow. They're designed quite well, with multiple indents and heavy springs to keep the valve from accidentally opening

Fumotos are the bane of quicklubes. They take 3x as long to drain, and it leaves that last bit of extra sedimenty oil in the pan unless you lift the front end.

I had one on my C30 and it was a Godsend. It was quick, clean and pretty idiot proof. I liked it a lot.

I think they will go on any vehicles I plan to keep long-term from now on.

Oh, here's a question. So the housing that the oil filter threads into on an 850.... Is there supposed to be any play in it? I noticed that when I held the oil filter I could wiggle it around a bit, there was a fair amount of movement...

I am not sure I remember (or ever knew) how the filter attaches on an 850.

That said, I wouldn't think so? But also, maybe. Or yes.

Good, glad it hasn’t leaked or broken off and ruined the engine. I still have no desire for one on anything I own, taking out a drain plug isn’t very difficult :)
